Amazon’s Kindle Fire 7 HD Review
There are indeed a lot of tablets out there in the marketplace today, so many in fact that the average consumer can get overwhelmed when shopping for one, but that issue can be solved with Amazon’s Kindle Fire 7 HD tablet. The best way to deal with the tablet market is to always ask yourself “what is the intended purpose of this tablet?”. Do you you need one that has to run a lot of graphic intensive programs? Are you looking for a huge tablet that can be used to design structures and buildings while you are on the road or do you need a small, compact, lightweight tablet that can be an excellent e-reader as well as provide all of the necessary functionality of a standard tablet, with access to all of the necessary applications that come with standard tablets – oh, and the tablet should be relatively cheap….this is where the Kindle Fire HD comes in.
This cute little 7 inch wonder is a very affordable tablet that comes with all of the necessary applications that is usally pretty standard with most tablets with the added bonus of having access to Amazon’s online marketplace and online bookstore where you have access to a huge library of e-books and online magazines that you can subscribe to and download for your reading pleasure.
As far as what is under the hood with we look at the Kindle Fire the following is a high level summary:
- A 7-inchHD LCD display (1280×800 pixels to be exact)
- A dual core processor (1.5GHz)
- Wi-Fi capability
- Built in email application (gmail, outlook compatible as well)
The kindle fire has a stronger battery (when compared to previous versions) capable of providing up to 10 hours of reading time and the overall look and feel of the tablet is now more sleek and sexier with a much thinner bezel (when compared to previous models). There is a custom Dolby Audio feature which is designed to enhance the sound quality of multimedia being played on the tablet. This audio technology can create virtual surround sound and also adjust its audio settings depending on the type of media being watched. For example, the sound quality can be tweaked depending on whether you are watching a video or listening to music.
The Kindle HD is very light too, weighing a mere 345 grams which is perfect as an e-reader. Amazon has also created a kid-friendly bundle called Kindle Free Time Unlimited where for a low monthly fee, kids can get access to kid-friendly books, educational applications and games as well as children’s movies and television shows.
To fully charge the Kindle HD takes about 6 hours and is powered by Amazon’s proprietary Fire OS operating system. Fire OS is designed to give easier content management, accessibility features as well as provide quicker access to applications and multimedia.
In short, this affordable tablet (it retails for about $130) is an e-reader and tablet all in one where you can get access to all of Amazon’s subscription services like their online store, Amazon Prime (access to streaming movies and popular TV shows as well). Amazon Prime users also get access to a huge library of music (with no advertisements!) and there is also the capability to get to read a free kindle book every month.
In summary, the Kindle HD makes an excellent gift idea for the price and gives you the best of both worlds in the form of a lightweight and powerful e-reader as well as an everyday tablet with access to tons of applications and Amazon’s online services.
