The Chinese company, JXD have recently launched their latest portable Android gaming device called the S192. The Singularity 192 (or S192) is a very powerful portable hardware platform indeed. It is designed to run any Android game with ease and it comes with a very impressive set of specifications.
This portable Android gaming console is targeted at avid gamers who want to be able to have a powerful, mobile device that can run emulators like NES, SNES, Sega, Nintendo 64 and Playstation One, just to name a few as well as handle the most powerful and graphic-rich Android games that are currently available in the Google Play store.
Looking at the technical specifications in more detail the S192 weighs in at about 580g and it has a physical footprint of just over 14 centimeters wide and 27.4 centimeters long.
The S192 boasts a gorgeous 7 inch full HD Retina display with an impressive resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels and has a pixel density of 323 pixels per inch (ppi). When developing the S192, JXD partnered up with our friends over at Nvidia to include some Nvidia processing horsepower under the hood of this little portable gaming beast. The CPU is an NVIDIA Tegra K1, quad core, 2 GHz ARM Cortex A15 microprocessor. The GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) sidekick to the main processor is the NVIDIA Kepler GPU which comes packed with 192 CUDA cores. Yes, for the record, that is no typo, the NVIDIA Kepler GPU does come with 192 cores!
So, seeing that the guts of the S192 is made up of NVIDIA technology, coupled with the high quality of physical gamepad controls that JXD is known for produces a very top notch gaming handheld indeed.
Looking at the memory specifications, the S192 has 32GB of Flash Memory and has a microSD card slot for cards up to a maximum capacity of 128GB. The onboard RAM (Random Access Memory) is 2GB of LPDDR3 hardware. All in all, the microSD expansion card slot is key especially if you need storage space for all of your game ROMs that will be needed to run via the various emulators that this hardware platform supports.
From a connectivity standpoint, the JXD S192 handheld comes with standard Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 wireless connectivity.
I am not sure why JXD included a front camera on something that is strictly designed for gaming while on the go, but they did anyway. The front facing camera is a 5 megapixel one which is ideal for video chats via Skype and the like.
Now the S192 would definitely need a strong battery that would be able to operate the huge 7 inch HD screen for long periods of gameplay, so JXD decided to stuff in a whopping 10,000 mAh Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery into the S192 chassis.
There is also a gravity sensor built in as well to give players an additional input mechanism to play many of the more popular Android games that need this form of control to enhance gameplay.
The Android game library alone is quite huge in itself with literally thousands of games. That being said, there are also literally thousands of emulated games out there that can also be played on the S192. The following is a partial list of compatible emulators that you can download and use on the S192:
- PPSSPP emulator – to play Playstation Portable games
- Nintendo DS
- Playstation 1
- Nintendo 64
- CPS1, CPS2 and CPS3
- Neo-Geo
- Game Boy, Game Boy Color
- Game Boy Advance
- Sega
- And so many more emulators….
I decided to save the best for last – the physical gamepad controls. In short, just imagine an Xbox 1 controller with the left analogue joystick and d-pad inverted and you have the gamepad of the S192. There are two shoulder buttons located on both rear left and right sides of the gamepad. As previously mentioned, on the left hand side of the S192 you will find the D-pad located above the left analogue stick. There are also two additional function buttons located on the lower left side which are quick access application and back button keys respectively.
The right had side of the gaming handheld has four multicolored action keys labelled, A, B, X and Y located above the right analogue joystick. There are also “start” and “select” buttons located on the lower right side of the integrated gamepad as well.
There are also a set of buttons along the top of the S192 as well: A set of volume keys and a power switch.
Ergonomics play a vital role in the S192’s physical shape as it is in essence a large gamepad with an integrated 7 inch HD screen. As a result, the S192 feels very comfortable in the hand and all of the keys are easily accessible during gameplay for anyone with small or large hands.
The S192 does not come cheap, however as it is said to retail at about $299. You can checkout JXD’s website for more details and you can also purchase them from here.
