This is the MyArcade Pac-Man Micro Player Mini Arcade Cabinet. This little yellow handheld video game system is a miniature replica of the real life-sized coin-operated Pac-Man machines that were a part of the arcade culture back in the 1980s and even the 1990s.
For those of you have a serious soft spot for retro video games would love this little gaming gadget. The MyArcade Pac-Man needs four AA batteries to work, however, if you do not like to waste your money buying batteries for this thing there is another power option available. Behind the cabinet, located near the bottom is a mini USB port that can be used to power the game from a live USB port on your laptop or computer. What I like about this power option is the fact that you can have your MyArcade Pac-Man machine powered on indefinitely on your desk next to your laptop with the Pac-Man screensaver while you work and you can always play a “quick” game of PacMan when taking a break from working on those spreadsheets.
The MyArcade Pac-Man game comes with only the one game of Pac-Man which also seems to be a port of the Nintendo Entertainment System (also known as NES) home video game console which was very popular back in the days of Miami Vice and CD-ROM drives.
To give this little handheld classic game system some authenticity there are also Pac-Man decals on the sides of the mini cabinet as well as on the control panel at the front. One of the downsides that I must mention however, is the fact that the marquis is not back-lit.
Speaking of controls, there is a “Start” and “Pause” button as well as a four direction D-pad located on the left hand side of the control panel. The D-Pad also comes with a detachable joystick depending on your playing style.
Game play is awesome, with realistic sound effects that are on par with the real Pac-Man arcade cabinet. The controls are very responsive and the graphics are crystal clear with stunning colors and clarity. The sprites look great and the detail is also pretty stunning for such a small screen.
Additional features include a 3.5 mm audio jack located behind the MyArcade Pac-Man mini cabinet as well as volume controls.
Retailing for about $20 to $30 dollars this makes a great collectible for any gaming hobbyist or retro video game enthusiast. You can also get them from Amazon here as well and add them to your other MyArcade game collections that include other great titles like Bad Dudes, Burger Time and one of my personal favorites called Galaga.
